 SAMe (S-Adenosylmethionine) (Hypoallergenic)

SAMe is a natural form of bioactive methionine. It is a result of the conversion of methionine by ATP and the enzyme SAMe synthetase. It is used by the body to produce the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinepherine, and serotonin. It is also used in the production and protection of DNA and RNA, and in the production of phosphatidylcholine, which may be beneficial in keeping cell membranes in a youthful state. SAMe is utilized by almost every cell of the body and that is why it has such a wide variety of benefits. *

SAMe is used by the body in the following metabolic pathways: methylation, synthesis of polyamines, and trans-sulphuration. Methylation is involved in protection or transformation of other molecules such as DNA and homocysteine. Synthesis of polyamines results in cell growth, gene expression, neuron regeneration, etc. and trans-sulphuration is the synthesis of L-cysteine, glutathione and other sulfate groups, which are involved in liver support and detoxification. In Chinese medicine the liver is thought of as the seat of emotion and compromised liver function is thought to be involved in mood. Research has shown SAMe as being of benefit in lowering elevated liver enzymes. *

It is suspected that SAMe protects synovial cells by reversing glutathione depletion, thereby being beneficial for compromised joint function and degeneration. Studies have shown that during joint degeneration the synovial fluid may contain damaging cytokines (TNF) and free radicals. In addition, SAMe may protect proteoglycans (protein cells, composed of keratin and chondroitin sulfate) and chondrocytes (cartilage cells, that make proteoglycans and collagen), the components of the spongy tissues between joint called cartilage that breaks down during joint degeneration.*

For optimal metabolism and utilization of SAMe, it should be taken with B6, B12, and Folic Acid. Therefore Allergy Research Group® suggests Item no. 72580, HomoCysteine Metabolite Formula or Item no. 73230, TMG (Trimethylglycine).*

Amino acids exist in all living cells and chains of amino acids make up protein.  They make up a great portion of our skin, hair, nails, muscle tissue, and internal organs.  Our brain and heart are especially high in protein.  The body uses amino acids in the production of neurotransmitters in the brain, several hormones, a variety of enzyme and metabolic processes, the formation of antibodies, as well as for the production of non-essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are the amino acids the body does not produce and it is necessary to get them from the diet or supplementation. Non-essential amino acids are the amino acids the body produces, and semi-essential amino acids are also produced by the body, but higher amounts may be necessary during times of increased physical or emotional stress, illness, or imbalance.  *
