Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid contained in cell membranes.  It is a lesser component of lecithin than phosphatidylcholine, and studies have shown it to improve cognitive function in people with age-related memory impairment and potentially it may optimize memory function in persons with no memory impairment.* PhosSerine® Complex is extracted from soy lecithin with the aid of a cabbage enzyme.

PhosSerine® Complex: Phosphatidylserine is an endogenic phospholipid present in cell membranes.  It is the major acidic phospholipid in the brain.  Built from the amino acid serine, phosphatidylserine may strengthen cellular metabolism and communication. * Aging is often associated with the changes in the brain, both structurally and biochemically, including neuronal membrane lipid construction imbalance and enzymatic activity derangement.

Supplementation with phosphatidylserine may affect neuronal membranes, cell metabolism, and neurotransmitter systems, including acetylcholine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin.  Phosphatidylserine may provide positive contributions against age-induced loss of dendritic spines in the hippocampal pyramidal neurons. Phosphatidylserine may also protect cells from free-radical damage.  Studies have shown that exogenous phosphatidylserine crosses the blood-brain barrier, where it appears to have an affinity for the hypothalamus. *
