Description of ingredients contained in Steady On (Neurological Support) from Allergy Research Group®:

L-tyrosine and L-phenylalanine are amino acid precursors to the catecholamine neurotransmitters epinephrine, norepinephrine, L-dopa and dopamine, and require other nutrients such as Vitamins C and B6 for proper conversion. These neurotransmitters help regulate mental function, stress response, mood, satiety and sex drive. Tyrosine also supports proper thyroid hormone levels. Tyrosine has a history of research and use as nutritional support for mood disorders. As a support for the production of epinephrine, the neurotransmitter involved in stress response, tyrosine has been shown to help reduce some effects of stress, including short term memory loss and depression. *

Besides supporting the liver, stomach, intestines, and heart, Lecithin also provides precursors to important neural nutrients, including choline and inositol. Inositol has long been studied and used clinically to nutritionally support those with mental conditions, including depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and neurological disorders associated with diabetes. Choline is known to help improve memory and cognitive function, and has been found to be supportive when addressing Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Tardive Dyskinesia. *

Glutathione, the production of which is supported by ALC as well as directly supplied in Steady On, is considered important for brain function, and its deficiency has now been linked with Parkinson's disease. *

Flax Seed Oil is a source of Omega-3 fatty acids, primary structural components in cell membranes. The many roles of Omega-3 fatty acids include support of the central nervous system. Steady On also contains additional amounts of the key omega-3 oils, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), from fish oil. These have been shown to help stabilize mood disorders. Both have undergone clinical trials showing they may provide benefit for patients with schizophrenia. DHA is also essential for proper growth and development of the brain, nervous system, and the retina of the eye in children. *

Researcher Ray Peat has dubbed dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) a "brain steroid" because it is more concentrated in the brain than in any other organ of the body. DHEA has shown possible benefit for depression. Coenzyme Q10, besides its support of energy production and heart function, has been shown in several studies to benefit people with Parkinson's disease. Taurine is concentrated in the eyes, brain, and heart, and plays a key role in the nervous (electrical) system of the body. It has been studied for use in people with some forms of epilepsy. Because L-methionine helps reduce histamine levels, it plays a role in the dilation of blood vessels and brain function. Disorders that involve elevated histamine levels, such as certain forms of depression and schizophrenia, may be beneficially supported by L-methionine. *

Many "usual" nutrients are also important to support neurological health. For instance, Thiamin has been shown in studies to be deficient in most psychiatric patients. It also has been shown to provide support for many neurological conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, sensory neuropathy, sciatica, Bell's Palsy, and insomnia. Abraham Hoffer demonstrated over 40 years ago that Niacin may improve the symptoms of schizophrenia.
