Enzymes assist energy production, conversion of carbohydrates to glucose, and the metabolism of fat and protein. B Vitamins are also essential to optimal functioning of the central nervous system, and are used during physiological responses to stress and fatigue. Adequate levels of B Vitamins are especially important for the formation of healthy hair and skin, and optimal functioning of the eyes and liver. The general muscle tone of the gastrointestinal tract is supported by the B Vitamins, potentially promoting efficient bowel functioning. *

The B Vitamin group includes the following: B1 (thiamin), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cyanocobalamin), biotin, folic acid, choline, inositol and PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid). Orotic acid, pangamic acid, and B17 (laetrile) are intimately involved in many of the same pathways, and are commonly regarded as quasi-B vitamins.*

Description of Pantethine (Hypoallergenic) from Allergy Research Group®:

Pantethine is an important metabolite in the production of cellular energy and in lipid metabolism.  It appears in the body during the metabolism of pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5).  Pantethine is the stable disulfide form of an intermediate (pantetheine) in the transformation of pantothenic acid to coenzyme A.  Coenzyme A plays a key role in the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, and lipids, and is essential for the synthesis of other important substances such as acetylcholine.  Pantothenic acid is water soluble, and unused pantothenic acid is quickly excreted via the urinary tract.  Pantethine can stay in the bloodstream for up to 16 hours, maximizing its support of energy and lipid metabolism.*

Pantethine supports the health of the cardiovascular and circulatory systems by promoting an optimal balance of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and triglycerides. Studies have shown that pantethine promotes healthy levels, increasing HDL-C and apolipoprotein A1 levels, and decreasing levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C, apolipoprotein B and triglycerides. In addition, pantethine may have antioxidant activity, and may decrease the cholesterol content of platelet membranes, increase platelet membrane fluidity and decrease platelet aggregability.*

Animal studies demonstrate that pantethine can inhibit lens opacification, and protect against hepatotoxins, including carbon tetrachloride, halocarbons, autoxidized linoleate and ethanol.  Although these results have not been demonstrated yet in human studies, a small study with humans showed that pantethine lowered serum acetaldehyde following ethanol ingestion.*

Besides pantethine, other dietary supplements have been shown in numerous studies to provide a variety of benefits in maintaining cardiovascular wellness. Vitamins B6, B12 and Folic Acid are known to be crucial for regulating homocysteine levels.  Niacin has been shown to decrease LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and increase HDL cholesterol.  Antioxidants, such as Vitamin E, Vitamin C and beta-carotene prevent damage to arteries from oxidized forms of LDL-C.  Phytosterols can block the absorption of cholesterol by the body, thereby preventing cholesterol levels from building up.  Pantethine is a welcome addition to the arsenal of nutritional elements that support cardiovascular health.*
